About
What is NanophotonicsLab
NanophotonicsLab is a collection of browser-based tools for nanophotonics, optical scattering, plasmonics, electron microscopy, wave optics and ultrafast laser calculations.
All numerical tools run entirely in your browser. There is no server-side computation — your data never leaves your device. Some tools use Pyodide to run Python scientific libraries (NumPy, SciPy) client-side via WebAssembly.
Who made this
NanophotonicsLab is created and maintained by Dr. Álvaro Rodríguez Echarri, postdoctoral researcher in theoretical nanophotonics, and Dr. José Ramón Martínez Saavedra, physicist working in scientific software and deep-tech product development.
Both are former PhD students of Prof. Javier García de Abajo at ICFO — The Institute of Photonic Sciences (Barcelona). The tools in this project draw on the theoretical and computational background developed during that training.
Intent and limitations
The tools are intended for exploration, teaching, rapid estimation and reproducible numerical checks. They are not a substitute for full electromagnetic simulation workflows or peer-reviewed validation in critical designs.
Each tool documents its numerical model, assumptions and references. Where approximations are used, they are stated explicitly.
